The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 is getting some important updates, and one big class-leading claim for maximum towing capacity. The 2020 trucks will be available for sale this summer, around August or September 2019. First up are the engines. If you have been wanting a Silverado Trail Boss with the big 6.2-liter V8, then you will be able to get it in the 2020 trucks.
Here’s how the diesel-powered, half-ton pickups from Chevrolet, Ford, GMC and Ram stack up.
With the introduction of the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel on Monday, the full-size, half-ton pickup truck class will have four diesel-powered offerings. When the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel goes on sale at the end of this year, it’ll battle the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 and GMC Sierra, both of which offer new, turbo-diesel engines.

We have been waiting for the new 3.0-liter Diesel Silverado 1500 for a long time. We finally get to drive it in Oregon, and the new diesel impresses with power and smoothness. Chevrolet is not new to straight-six engines, but this is the first I-6 turbo-diesel, and it goes into the Silverado 1500 half-ton truck. This engine is a clean-sheet design. The block and the head is made out of aluminum. It uses a water-cooled air intake system and a variable geometry turbocharger. There are dual air intake runners for each cylinder that can be partially closed or opened to either get good swirl for economy, or large air flow for maximum power.
